The Electrical Engineering Graduate Program (PPGEE – Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Elétrica) of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM – Universidade Federal de Santa Maria) has the following mission statement:
“To promote the qualification of Electrical Engineers and from related areas for the development of the scientific and technological knowledge, promoted through the assimilation, generation and transmission of knowledge in the Electrical Power Processing area, aiming to improve the quality of life.”
PPGEE/UFSM is composed of master (since 1974) and doctoral (since 1999) programs, in the Electrical Power Processing concentration area.
Since 2013, PPGEE/UFSM is among the best Electrical Engineering graduate programs in Brazil, receiving the grade 6 in the evaluation performed by the Brazilian agency CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel). This grade is reserved to programs whose scientific production is comparable to that of international centers of excellence.
PPGEE/UFSM has four main research areas:
- Applied Control
- Lighting Systems
- Power Systems
- Power Electronics
In addition, three research groups are linked to PPGEE/UFSM:
- Center of Excellence in Energy and Power Systems (CEESP)
- Electronic Ballasts Research Group (GEDRE)
- Power Electronics and Control Research Group (GEPOC)
